My guess is that you've got it turned full up in SteerMouse, but turned right down in system preferences. If you're complaining that it's too slow and you've got it on the fastest settings in system preferences + steer mouse, then the problem is you. This takes care of "Back" and "Forward" for me within Firefox within Mac setting. In the "Default" profile of Steermouse, I map "Cmd+" to Button 7 & 8 AND Tilt Wheel of my Logitech 5 Button Mouse(7&8 are supposed to be same as Tilt Wheel but just setting them in Tilt Wheel does not seem to work).
Ok, hope I am not violating any forum rule by resurrecting such an old post, but I have just figured out how to map the back and forward in Window(within Parallels, in Firefox anyway) to work and thought I might share it just in case it might help somebody still searching for the answer.
